Review

Today I came to Sihui for some errands, and when I finished it happened to be mealtime. I opened Dianping to search for nearby food and found this local long-established restaurant.

I have a small personal rule when eating in an unfamiliar place: I prefer restaurants that have been in business for more than five years. Especially in Guangdong, being able to operate for so many years at least shows a certain ability to survive and its own character. Of course, whether it’s actually good or not, I still have to try it myself.

By the time I entered the restaurant it was already mealtime, and the occupancy rate was less than half. But in the current economic climate, I think that’s acceptable. I looked at the menu and found that their signature dish is stir-fried rice noodles with swamp eel. The swamp eel is 98 yuan per catty, and one catty is the minimum order. That portion sounded a bit overwhelming!

I originally wanted to order the ginger-infused camellia oil chicken, but it turned out they require you to order a whole chicken, at 120 yuan each, which is really too much for one person. In the end I ordered a portion of camellia oil goose instead, 68 yuan, which can be ordered as a single portion.

I didn’t expect that after the two dishes arrived, I would be shocked by the portions!

🥢 Stir-fried rice noodles with swamp eel | 90 points

This dish is definitely the star of today! The top is covered with swamp eel, and you can barely see the rice noodles underneath. The portion looks very generous. The swamp eel pieces are not small, and they taste fresh, savory, and well-seasoned. The rice noodles are also stir-fried fragrantly. Overall it’s quite good.

This signature dish really has some skill, no wonder it’s the restaurant’s main dish. In the end I only ate half of it, and the rest had to be packed to take away.

🥢 Camellia oil goose | 80 points

This camellia oil goose also performed well. The flavor is quite fragrant, and overall I was satisfied. The key is that it can be ordered as a single portion, unlike the camellia oil chicken which must be purchased as a whole bird, making it friendlier for solo diners.

💰 Dining experience

The two dishes came to 170 yuan in the end. Honestly, there’s nothing to complain about regarding the taste and portions, but spending 170 yuan on a meal for one person is still a bit extravagant.

Overall, this long-established restaurant has very generous portions and good dish quality. The stir-fried rice noodles with swamp eel are especially worth trying, and I give it an overall 80 points. However, this restaurant is more suitable for two or three people or even more. With more people you can order several signature dishes, taste different flavors, and not worry about portions being too large to finish. If you come alone, I suggest asking clearly about the minimum order quantity and price first, otherwise it’s easy to end up like me—satisfied in the stomach but with a thinner wallet.
