It’s mealtime again, so I’m out looking for food. This small Putian restaurant near the Jade Street is one I’ve passed by many times. These little places usually don’t do much promotion; whether business is good depends more on word of mouth from nearby neighbors and real diners. I happened to have time today, so I came in to give it a try.

When you go to a Putian restaurant, you definitely have to order their signature dish—Putian braised noodles. It didn’t take long to arrive. The presentation was pretty good, and there was actually a fairly fresh large shrimp in it. With that kind of setup, I think it’s already more sincere than some ordinary braised noodles near Jade Street.

The key point: it’s only 20 yuan per serving. With such a big shrimp, just that alone would probably sell for around 25 yuan elsewhere, so the value for money is quite obvious. The taste is fairly standard—not particularly amazing, but no obvious shortcomings either. And it’s made to order. For 20 yuan to simply solve a meal, I think it’s completely fine.

Overall, I’d give it around 80 points. Putian cuisine itself isn’t bad; it’s just that small shops like this with little marketing really build up gradually through word of mouth. If you happen to be near Jade Street and want a simple meal, you can try this place. It’s not easy for a small shop; it’s worth supporting one that can keep going with genuine ingredients.
