Today I went to soak in a hot spring in Qingyuan, and by the time I finished, it was about time to eat. Since I was in Qingyuan, I definitely had to try the local Qingyuan chicken. It happened to occur to me that Qingyuan is also near the Bei River, so the river fresh food should be pretty good too. So I looked for a restaurant that had both Qingyuan chicken and river fresh food.

This restaurant is right next to the Bei River embankment. Most of the drive from the hot spring was fine; the really difficult part was the stretch near the restaurant. Along the embankment is a relatively narrow two-way single-lane road. During the National Day holiday, the roadside was packed with parked cars, and passing oncoming traffic was really difficult.

Luckily, when I arrived, the restaurant still had one parking space left, so I quickly parked and thought that would save trouble. But after eating, I realized that while it was easy to park, getting out wasn’t necessarily easy. I ended up waiting for quite a while, and it took me about 15 minutes just to back the car out from inside. Today I also saw a car get scratched while passing another vehicle on site.

So if you come during holidays, I really suggest you don’t insist on parking right at the restaurant entrance; parking a bit farther away might actually be more convenient. The restaurant’s environment is a fairly ordinary farmhouse style—nothing special about the setting—and people mainly come for the food. After looking at the menu, since I was alone, I simply ordered two dishes: one bream, 38 yuan per jin, and the one I ordered was less than two jin; plus half a white-cut Qingyuan chicken for 58 yuan. The final bill was 115 yuan in total, and the value for money was decent.

First, the bream—this was really delicious. After all, eating river fresh food right by the Bei River, bream has an advantage: the meat is tender and fresh, and there’s basically nothing to complain about. Since I was eating alone, I originally wanted to order some river shrimp, but then I thought the two dishes were already about enough, so I didn’t order more.

The white-cut Qingyuan chicken was also decent, as expected. The chicken itself was quite good, and the white-cut preparation does a good job of bringing out the flavor of Qingyuan chicken. Their dipping sauce is minced ginger with peanut oil—very simple, but it tastes especially fragrant. These two dishes were just right for one person. I didn’t even order any staple food. In the end, after eating for 115 yuan, the overall experience was quite comfortable.

If we consider only the food, I think I’d give it around 80 points. The two signature items, bream and Qingyuan chicken, at least did not disappoint me. But the biggest downside of this restaurant is also very obvious—parking and getting in and out are really a hassle.

If you come on a regular day, the problem might not be that serious. But during holidays like National Day, with all the roadside parking, the whole road becomes very difficult to navigate. Especially when everyone finishes eating and leaves at the same time, it really tests your driving skills.

So if you are specifically coming to eat Qingyuan chicken and also try some Bei River fresh food, you can come and give it a try; but if you drive here during holidays, be sure to think about parking in advance.
