As someone from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, seeing a Ningbo restaurant in Foshan gave me a bit of a warm, familiar feeling. I happened to arrange dinner with a few friends today, so we chose this place to try.
The restaurant is inside Lingnan Tiandi, and the location is easy to find. There were five of us in total. Because we missed our hometown flavors and their portions weren’t particularly large, we accidentally ordered eight or nine dishes and basically tried everything we wanted.
After eating, there were three dishes that left a deep impression.
One was the seafood rice, which had a rich umami flavor; one was the three-delicacy soup, which tasted like the familiar flavor from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area; and the home-braised yellow croaker with rice cakes—I personally liked this one a lot. Yellow croaker with rice cakes is also a very typical Ningbo way to eat. If it’s your first visit, I think these three are worth ordering.
Overall, I think the flavors passed the test. Being able to eat Ningbo food of this standard in Foshan is already quite authentic. Of course, if you insist on comparing it to what you’d eat locally in Shanghai or Ningbo, there will still be some gaps. That’s normal, since ingredients and flavors will always be adjusted due to location differences.
We also ordered silver pomfret. The two fish were a little small, but the braised flavor was okay.
The only disappointment was the radar net hairtail. This hairtail felt less fresh and had a noticeable fishy smell. At least for the portion we had that day, I personally don’t recommend it.
The other dishes were basically free of misses.
With five people eating, overall we were quite satisfied. For a Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai stomach like mine, occasionally wanting a familiar hometown taste, this place can satisfy the craving. If Guangdong friends who haven’t had much Ningbo food before want to try it, they can come and experience the homestyle flavors of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang coastal area.
