Yuntian Dry-Steamed Pork Rib Rice (Panyu Zhongcun Branch)「云天干蒸排骨饭(番禺钟村店)」

Review

Today I was running errands nearby and it happened to be mealtime. I wanted something to eat but didn’t want anything too complicated. I came across this place that does dry-steamed pork rib rice, so I came to try it.

I’ve had dry-steamed pork rib rice quite a few times before, but mostly in Rongbian, Shunde. I haven’t really tried how Panyu does it. The restaurant is much bigger than I imagined, probably about three or four hundred square meters. By the time I arrived it was almost past peak meal time, so there weren’t many people; I guess it should be quite busy during regular meal hours.

I used a 22.5 yuan Dianping voucher, chose a portion of dry-steamed pork belly, and added a small portion of dry-steamed pork ribs for 15 yuan, totaling 37 yuan. When it arrived, I found the portion was actually quite generous, completely enough for one person. If you order normally, it’s also not expensive—dry-steamed pork ribs seem to be 15 yuan per portion, and adding rice is only one or two yuan. This price is really quite reasonable nowadays. The highlight is still the ribs. The ribs are marinated in advance, but not overly marinated, so you can taste the freshness of the meat itself, not something covered up by a pile of seasonings. Dry-steamed, the meat aroma is quite strong, and underneath there isn’t a pool of juices, so the freshness and texture of the ribs are both good. I originally came with the mindset of “trying out how Panyu’s dry-steamed pork rib rice is,” and after eating, I felt it really isn’t worse than some places I’ve had in Ronggui before. The price is not expensive, the portion is enough, and the ribs are fresh. This kind of place is actually more suitable for casually coming to eat a meal on a normal day.

I personally give it about 85 points. If I want a simple meal in the area in the future, I will probably come again.
