Today I went to Lunjiao in Shunde and checked out a Pinxiang Pork Rib Rice hidden in a village. Honestly, the location isn’t very conspicuous, and when I drove in, I even wondered if I had taken a wrong turn.
When I got to the door and looked, the sign already had a strong vintage feel.
After reading the introduction downstairs, I learned that this shop’s history can be traced back to 1890 in the Qing Dynasty. It was quite prosperous during the Republic of China era, and now the third generation has revived this old taste. What I like about this place is that it doesn’t feel like a big restaurant; it’s more like a small eatery that neighbors used to frequent in the past.
The dishes here are basically small plates, many freshly steamed, averaging around ten yuan per plate. Don’t let the small portions fool you; the taste is really good, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. Today I went alone and ordered 5 dishes in one go, plus a bowl of rice, and the total came to 60 yuan. Honestly, at today’s price levels, I think this price is very affordable. And it really does taste different from big restaurants. There isn’t a lot of fancy plating here; it’s very traditional, home-style Shunde flavor, steaming hot, rich in taste, and comfortable to eat.
Each plate isn’t large, but at around ten yuan a plate, I think the portion is completely adequate. And when dining alone, you can order more varieties and try a bit of everything—I actually quite like this way of eating. My biggest feeling after finishing: this is probably not a place specifically for tourists to check in; it’s more like a place where nearby neighbors come back repeatedly to eat. The prices are not expensive, the ingredients are fresh, the taste is good, and it has a bit of the lively atmosphere of an old Shunde small eatery.
If you happen to come near Lunjiao, I think this place is worth a detour to eat a meal. Per person: about 60 yuan (I ordered quite a lot as one person)
