Another Yunnan rice noodle shop has just opened in Pingzhou, and today happened to be its first day of business, so I came to give it a try.
Honestly, competition in the restaurant business near Jade Street is really fierce these days. With things like this, the owner is still bold enough to open a new shop, and I think that takes some guts.
This place is called Yunguike. It looks like it’s a chain — Foshan already seems to have several locations. The prices aren’t expensive; most rice noodle dishes are around 18–20 yuan, and there are quite a few self-service side dishes you can help yourself to.
Today I ordered the stinky tofu clay-pot rice noodles.
Maybe I just didn’t pick the right dish, but this was genuinely a bit too spicy for me 🌶️. It was okay at the beginning, but the further I ate, the more overwhelming it got. I ate about 80% and really couldn’t finish the rest. If you’re not usually very good with spicy food, I personally wouldn’t recommend trying this one on your first visit.
For the flavor itself, I’d say around 75, but the environment adds a few points. The interior is quite bright and clean; even on the first day there were quite a few customers, and the overall dining experience felt comfortable.
All in all, I’d give it 80.
The food scene in Pingzhou is really changing too fast right now — one place opens and another changes hands, it’s pretty common. I still hope a new place like this that takes its food seriously can stick around a bit longer.
I took photos of their menu and prices, so you can just look at the pictures for reference. What to eat and how much it costs are basically clear at a glance.
