Xie Sanpen Jianghu Cuisine Sichuan Restaurant (Dujiangyan Branch)「谢三盆·江湖菜川菜馆(都江堰店)」

Review

After visiting Dujiangyan that day, when it was time to eat, we wanted to find a local Sichuan restaurant. I opened Dianping and searched around, saw that this Xie Sanpen had good reviews, so we drove straight over.

The restaurant is tucked inside a small alley, but the storefront is quite large, and the decor has that lively, fiery feel typical of Sichuan restaurants. When we arrived, it was actually already a bit past mealtime, but there were still a lot of people in the restaurant, so business is indeed good.

The three of us ordered several dishes: signature sauerkraut fish, Sichuan cured pork, stir-fried double crisp, and a glutinous rice ball.

This meal basically had no disappointing dishes; the ingredients were fresh, and the numbing, spicy, fresh, and fragrant flavors that Sichuan cuisine should have were all delivered.

My favorite was still the sauerkraut fish. The fish texture was especially good, tender, smooth, and full of flavor, very enjoyable. The Sichuan cured pork also deserves praise: I personally like this kind of thing, and it had a strong cured aroma, alternating fat and lean, soft, glutinous, fresh, and fragrant, getting more fragrant the more you chew. The stir-fried double crisp was also cooked just right, and overall the dishes were quite consistent.

After traveling in Sichuan for so many days, I’ve actually had a lot of Sichuan food. This place gave me the feeling: it’s not necessary to hype it up as amazing, but it’s indeed delicious and has no obvious shortcomings.

If you come to Dujiangyan and want a proper place to eat Sichuan cuisine, this one can be on your shortlist. We were quite satisfied with this meal, recommended, won’t disappoint.
