Zigong Tender Fish Restaurant (Xiangheli Branch)「自贡嫩鱼馆(祥和里店)」

Review

I came specifically to try this Zigong Tender Fish Restaurant tonight, and I had pretty high expectations before coming. It’s located in a residential area and has been open for over ten years. The reviews looked decent, so I thought a long-standing local place wouldn’t disappoint.

We ordered a 3-jin-9-liang spicy fish (about 1.95 kg), plus a stir-fried huanghou (aorta) and a stir-fried pork kidney. The fish was just over 100 yuan, and the portion was enough for three people.

But I was a bit disappointed after eating. The spicy fish wasn’t as amazing as I expected, and the fish meat didn’t have that tender, silky texture. The huanghou and pork kidney dishes tasted almost identical in flavor—both were stir-fried the same way—and they felt a bit greasy toward the end.

Coincidentally, on the way back to the hotel after the meal, we ran into two Chengdu locals and casually asked them about this place. They also smiled and said, “It’s average, not that good.” After hearing that, it felt quite consistent with our experience.

Maybe my expectations were too high; this meal didn’t meet them. If I were to rate it, I’d give it about 60 out of 100: not bad, but I wouldn’t want to come back a second time.
