After visiting Eastern Suburb Memory in the afternoon, we rushed to Wenshu Monastery in the city center. This temple was first built in the Sui Dynasty, suffered damage in wars, and the existing buildings were mainly rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. Although the overall area is not large, with towering ancient trees and a serene environment, you can feel a strong Zen atmosphere as soon as you step in.
Incense offerings here are very active; every visitor can receive a free incense stick, and worshippers come in an endless stream, with queues often required at popular halls. Compared with some popular commercial attractions in Chengdu, this place offers more tranquility and allows people to temporarily slow down.
If you travel to Chengdu and want to experience the local Buddhist culture, Wenshu Monastery is still worth a stop. It is recommended to reserve about 1 hour—worship Buddha, stroll around the courtyard, and soak in the incense atmosphere; the experience is quite good.
