Review

After strolling around Taikoo Li, I was a bit hungry and didn’t really feel like eating spicy food, so I wanted to have a classic Chengdu Laoma pig trotter. There are quite a few trotter restaurants nearby. I saw that this one has been open for many years, so I decided to come in and try it.

Since I was alone, I ordered one signature trotter for 42 yuan and did not add any other dishes. I didn’t expect it to come in a large pot, with a very generous portion, more than enough for one person.

As for the taste, what satisfied me most was that there was no gamey smell at all. The broth was clear, fragrant, and sweet, very comforting to drink. The trotter was stewed until very soft and tender; it almost melted in my mouth with a light press, but still retained a bit of gelatinous texture, and didn’t feel greasy at all.

So far, this is one of the best Laoma trotters I’ve ever had. Although Chengdu certainly has many other great ones, this restaurant left a very good impression on me in terms of quality, texture, and portion size. If you’re shopping near Taikoo Li and want something light and warming for the stomach, this is worth recommending.
