Today I visited Pingdi Market and realized it truly is a hidden gathering place for Chaoshan cuisine on the border of Guangzhou and Foshan. The market is filled with Chaoshan-style snacks and cooked foods, and every time I come here, I make a special trip to check out this Sunan Braised Goose Rice.

If I had to recommend a fairly authentic Chaoshan braised goose in the Guangzhou-Foshan area, this place would definitely make the list. The prices are reasonable and the value is excellent. Whether it’s the goose meat, liver, intestines, or neck, nothing disappoints.

My top recommendation is their goose intestines. They braise and sell them fresh, keeping them on ice for freshness. When you order, the owner picks them out, blanches them in the braising liquid for a few seconds, slices them, and serves. The texture is incredibly crisp and crunchy, and you can immediately taste the freshness—no off-flavors at all.

The goose meat is from smaller geese rather than large lion-head geese, making the meat more tender and less likely to become tough the more you chew. The goose liver is soft and delicate, with a slightly creamy texture and no gamey taste. The goose neck is also deeply infused with flavor—the more you gnaw, the more fragrant it gets—perfect for Chaoshan braised food lovers.

If you also enjoy Chaoshan braised goose, or come to Pingdi Market for a food hunt, I think this place is worth a special trip. For me, whenever I pass by Pingdi Market, this is almost always a must-stop.
