After dinner today, I was still craving a little something and felt like having a bowl of Chaoshan sweet soup, so I stopped by this place called Yixi. I recall that it started out as just a small shop next door, and now it has expanded into such a large space. I think being able to grow in the current market environment shows they must have some real strengths.

The prices here are quite reasonable, with most desserts ranging from 10 to 15 yuan. I ordered their signature yamuniang glutinous rice ball five-fruit sweet soup, around 15 yuan. Chaoshan sweet soup is different from the sweet soups found in many other places—it’s not overly sweet, leaning toward a lighter, more refreshing profile, so you won’t get tired of it. The yamuniang glutinous rice balls are soft and chewy, and paired with various toppings, making for a rich layering of textures.

If you’re looking for a place to sit and have some sweet soup to cut through the greasiness after dinner, this spot is pretty good—affordable, consistent in flavor, and worth a try.
