Today at mealtime, I happened to pass by this Xiongzai Restaurant and decided to come in and give it a try. Now I have two criteria for choosing a restaurant: first, I look at how long it has been in business. In Guangdong, a restaurant that has been operating steadily for many years relies mostly on word-of-mouth and repeat customers; second, I look at the environment. Many restaurants with ordinary or even a bit old decor often put all their effort into the dishes, so the taste is even more worth looking forward to. This Xiongzai Restaurant is exactly that type.
Since I was dining alone, I ordered a bowl of rice, a clay pot of braised pork stomach with bean curd sticks, and a daily soup. When ordering, I specifically confirmed with the waiter that it was for one person, but what arrived was a big pot. The daily soup was only 18 yuan, with a very generous portion — really great value.
The biggest surprise of this meal was this braised pork stomach with bean curd sticks. The pork stomach was cleaned very thoroughly, with no unpleasant odor. The texture was smooth, tender, and springy, yet not tough at all — very enjoyable to chew. I can say it’s one of the most tender and delicious pork stomach dishes I’ve had in Foshan so far. What’s even more impressive is that the owner is not stingy at all; more than half of the pot was pork stomach, very generous with the ingredients. This pot cost 68 yuan, and I think it’s good value.
Overall, whether in terms of taste, portion, or value for money, I was quite satisfied. If you like pork stomach or are looking for an old establishment frequented by locals, this Xiongzai Restaurant is worth a try. I’d give it a score of 85.
