Today, a friend came to Hailing Island, and when dinner time came, we started debating what to eat. Originally, we wanted to eat seafood, but after looking at the prices, we were a bit put off. Seafood isn’t cheap, and we were afraid of getting ripped off. So we searched nearby and found this place, Bangji.
My criteria for judging whether a restaurant is worth trying usually include: how long it’s been open, whether the environment is too flashy, and whether locals eat there. A small shop like this, with a plain environment and some history, feels more reliable to me—at least it doesn’t seem like a place specifically targeting tourists.
We ordered a braised platter, a vegetable dish, a soup, and a chicken rice. The braised platter included large intestine, pig tongue, pork bones, and a fish. The overall taste was okay, but not particularly amazing—I’d give it about 75 points. Mainly because the braised items weren’t freshly made and hot, so the aroma was lacking. However, the large intestine and pig tongue were clean and had no off-flavors.
The vegetable dish was average, and the chicken rice was okay. They also gave us a clear soup for free, which was nice. Overall, it was a meal that didn’t disappoint and filled us up. But honestly, the unit price of the braised items wasn’t cheap, especially the offal—it was higher than I expected.
If you’re nearby and don’t want to spend a lot on seafood, you can give it a try. But it’s not worth making a special trip.
