For Hunan cuisine on Jade Street, this restaurant deserves a special recommendation!

Why do I call it an old-school Hunan restaurant? Because it has been here for nine years, almost ten! You see, there are quite a few Hunan restaurants on Jade Street, but they open and close all the time. A shop that can last this long clearly relies on more than just luck.

This is a small restaurant run by a Hunan mother and son. Looking at Dianping, there are only two or three reviews, which gives me the feeling they really don’t do much marketing and rely more on their cooking skills and repeat customers.

🥢 Signature must-order: Diaozi fish

Every time I come here, I basically order this dish. This fish is not common in other Hunan restaurants. The fish is small, lightly pan-fried on both sides first, then cooked in the Hunan style, bringing out its aroma and flavor.

What I like most is the fish meat: delicate, fresh, and smooth, not dry at all. The only small drawback is that it has a bit more bones, so you need to be careful when eating.

But this doesn’t affect my love for it at all. Especially when eating alone, ordering a Diaozi fish with a bowl of rice is simple and satisfying—just right!

On Jade Street, if you’re looking for an old-school Hunan restaurant that doesn’t rely on marketing and just cooks seriously, you can try this place. In particular, this Diaozi fish, which is not easy to find in other Hunan restaurants, really has its own character.

If you haven’t tried their Diaozi fish, I honestly suggest you come and give it a try!
