Originally I planned to go to Zhong Guang Ji Whole Pork Soup, but after driving there I found it wasn’t open today.
I had no choice but to reopen Dianping and search nearby, and that’s how I stumbled upon this Nian’en Ji Pork Knuckle Noodles.
First, the location is really hidden, in a small alley with a tiny storefront; easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully. Parking nearby is also tight and not easy. The interior environment is nothing to expect—about eight or nine small tables, just an ordinary neighborhood joint.
I ordered a tossed noodle and a pork knuckle soup, plus an extra 10 yuan for pork liver (zhurun). Since there were quite a few dine-in and takeout orders, I waited a bit. When the food arrived, I took the first bite of noodles—wow, this is right! The noodles were really good, cooked to just the right firmness, fragrant after mixing with the sauce, not too dry, not mushy. The pork knuckle did not disappoint either, stewed soft, glutinous, and savory, tasted fresh, without that frozen-product texture. But what truly amazed me today was actually the 10-yuan pork liver! Pork liver is very demanding on heat control; a little too much and it’s tough, a little too little and it’s raw. Their heat control was truly just right—very tender on the palate, yet completely no raw feeling. I can even say: this is the best pork liver I’ve had so far this year.
For 10 yuan a portion, I strongly recommend everyone must add it!
The environment is nothing special, just an ordinary neighborhood shop, but if judging purely on the food, I’d give it 95 points today. Some places are beautifully decorated but leave no impression after eating; instead, this kind of small shop hidden in the alleys—one bite tells you why people come specifically to eat.
I’ll remember this place. Next time, definitely return!
