Review

This time we came to Jiuzhaigou, we booked this Yunman Banshan Guesthouse.

At the time, a very important reason for choosing it was that it is relatively new. Generally, when booking hotels, I prefer those that have just opened recently, as the facilities and decor are usually newer. After actually staying there, it overall met my expectations: the decoration style is quite comfortable, the facilities are relatively new, and the price is reasonable.

The guesthouse is about a little over 1 km from the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. If you rely purely on walking, it would take around half an hour. However, in the morning the guesthouse has a car to take you to the scenic area, which is quite convenient.

What I like more is its location. The guesthouse is not in the busiest hotel cluster near the scenic area, but on the hillside, so it’s relatively quiet at night and doesn’t feel full of tourists everywhere. However, this location also comes at a price.

Walking up from the foot of the mountain is still a bit tiring, about a 10-minute climb, so if you bring elderly people or have a lot of luggage, it’s best to contact the guesthouse in advance for pickup.

We stayed in a twin room this time, and the room was generally good. But perhaps because Jiuzhaigou is relatively humid, part of the wall in our room had already cracked. Considering that this guesthouse hasn’t been open for long, I think this is a bit unacceptable, and I hope it can be maintained promptly later.

Another thing that impressed me is the owner.

I feel she really puts her heart into this guesthouse, basically living and eating here. I often saw her with a notebook in the meeting room handling bookings, after-sales, and all kinds of things. Actually, when staying at a guesthouse, I care a lot about the owner. If an owner personally oversees the operation long-term, many details usually won’t be too bad.

One thing that needs improvement is that the check-in time should be controlled more accurately. We arrived around 2 p.m. that day, but the room wasn’t ready yet and we couldn’t check in immediately. For tourists who have just rushed over from outside, this experience still takes a bit of a hit.

But there is one part of the evening I especially liked - everyone gathering around the fire and roasting potatoes.

It’s already quite cool in Jiuzhaigou at night, and a group of guests chatting around the fire and roasting potatoes made the kids especially happy. We could also get to know some tourists from different places, which has the kind of atmosphere a guesthouse should have. This is something many standardized hotels can’t offer.

Overall, I would give this guesthouse about 85 points.

The pros are that it’s new, quiet, comfortable in decor, reasonably priced, the owner is attentive, and there is shuttle service to the scenic area and the evening fire activity; the cons are room wall maintenance and check-in time could be better.

If you come to Jiuzhaigou and don’t necessarily need to stay at the busiest entrance to the scenic area, and prefer a quiet guesthouse with some atmosphere, this one is still worth considering.
