Review

At lunchtime today, I suddenly remembered that a few days ago when I passed the entrance of Jade Street, I saw a community canteen still under renovation. I thought then: once it opens, I must come and try it.

Today I rode over and saw that it was indeed open for business!

This place operates on a self-serve weighed model. At lunchtime there are about thirty to forty dishes, with a good mix of meat and vegetables. There are meat dishes like shrimp and beef, and basically everything is priced by weight. You pick what you like, and pay by the portion.

Although I know tomato scrambled eggs aren’t the best value

but I love them, so I didn’t hesitate to get a portion. The other dishes are more worthwhile, especially shrimp, beef, and such—you can take as much as you want without having to order extra just to make up a dish.

Rice is 2 yuan, and you can eat as much as you like.

So this place really suits people with different appetites: you can eat for a dozen yuan, twenty-something, or thirty-something—it’s completely up to you. If you top up a membership, the prices are even a little cheaper.

Another thing I like is that the kitchen is open and dishes are freshly stir-fried, so you can directly see the chefs cooking inside, which makes eating feel more reassuring.

Also, the rice here has some whole-grain options, like brown rice and black rice, which is friendly for people who usually pay attention to their diet.

The shop area is much larger than I imagined. The whole space is L-shaped, and I estimate it’s about 300 square meters. The decor is fairly new, the environment is clean and tidy, and the overall operation feels quite standardized.

I actually ordered a bit too much today, and with rice it came to over 30 yuan. For that price, I think it’s still quite solid.

I personally quite like this kind of community canteen. You don’t have to spend a lot every time; if you want a simple meal, a dozen yuan or so is enough, and if you want a few more dishes, you can totally do that.

If you live nearby, it feels like you could really make it a daily dining choice. The new shop currently gives a good overall experience, the price isn’t expensive, and everyone can go give it a try.
