On this trip to Chengdu, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Chengdu, mainly for its location. The hotel is right in the center of Chengdu, about a 500-meter walk from Taikoo Li, and downstairs is a transfer station for two metro lines. It is very convenient whether you go to Kuanzhai Alley, Chunxi Road, or other attractions, and it really saves a lot of time for visitors.
Check-in went smoothly. We booked an Executive Grand Club room. After checking in, my first impression was that the room was not very large; however, considering the hotel is in Chengdu’s core business district, this amount of space is acceptable. Although the room has been maintained for some years and some facilities look slightly dated, the housekeeping is well done and it was very clean. We stayed on the 33rd floor, with a relatively broad view, and it felt comfortable looking out both during the day and at night.
The executive benefits were another satisfying part of this stay, including breakfast for two and happy hour in the executive lounge. The evening buffet of light bites was not particularly extensive, but it was enough to fill us up and saved time going out for dinner, which was quite convenient overall.
I also tried the heated swimming pool on the 13th floor. The pool design is quite distinctive, and it also has hot spring soaking pools. After a day of sightseeing, soaking there really helped relieve a lot of fatigue.
Overall, I think the biggest advantages of the Grand Hyatt Chengdu are its location and executive benefits. Although the hardware is not as stunning as the newest hotels, the service, cleanliness, and amenities are all at the standard you would expect from a Grand Hyatt. If you are visiting Chengdu for the first time and want to stay somewhere with convenient transportation, shopping, and dining, this hotel is worth considering. I would give my overall experience 80 points.
