I haven’t had Sichuan food for a long time. Today I suddenly craved something heavy-flavored, so I came to this Fushun Tofu Pudding on Jade Street.
This restaurant used to be at Haitian Market, an inconspicuous small shop. Last year it moved to the intersection of Yong’an Road, and the space is now four or five times larger. The environment is much more comfortable than before, and business has been good. It’s quite a well-known Sichuan restaurant on Jade Street.
Every time I come, I basically order the flash-fried pork kidney. This dish is indeed worth recommending. The kidney is very clean, with no unpleasant smell, and the heat control is excellent—the texture is especially tender, spicy and flavorful, perfect with rice. Since moving to the new location, the prices have gone up slightly, but that’s understandable given the larger space and higher rent. Today I was alone, so I ordered one portion of flash-fried pork kidney, a bowl of rice, and a small bowl of the restaurant’s pickled vegetables. Simple and satisfying. I went around lunchtime, and the place was about seventy to eighty percent full. The serving speed was decent, and the food quality remained consistent with before—no drop-off after the move.
There was a small incident at the end. When I was about to leave, the waitress asked if I had paid. I was a bit stunned because I had paid before they even placed the order. Later, I showed the payment record, and it turned out that the owner had gone to take care of her child temporarily, and the two young waitresses on duty weren’t fully familiar with the payment handover, causing a misunderstanding. Although it was quickly clarified and didn’t affect the dining experience, there is still room for improvement in service details.
Overall, if you want to eat relatively authentic Sichuan food near Jade Street, I think Fushun Tofu Pudding is worth recommending. Especially their flash-fried pork kidney—I order it almost every time. Friends who like Sichuan food can give it a try.
