This afternoon we drove all the way north along Hailing Island and ended up at Dawang Palace, which is probably a relatively northern and lesser-known spot on the island.
To be honest, there aren’t many tourists here, and the road isn’t great either—you need to be a bit careful driving up. Dawang Palace isn’t like those commercial attractions; it’s more of a place where local fishermen and villagers come to pray for peace and blessings. There are no Taoist priests inside, nor the vibe of tourists checking in. Instead, it feels very local and simple, full of folk faith.
Inside, you can see quite a few silk banners hanging, which should be left by locals fulfilling their vows. You can feel that this place holds significant weight in the hearts of fishermen. After all, living by the sea, a safe return from the sea is the greatest blessing for them.
If you come just for sightseeing, you might find it a bit plain. But if you’re interested in local culture and folk beliefs, it’s quite interesting to stop by. Few people, quiet, and you can see a less touristy side of Hailing Island.
