Today I finished some errands in Sanshan and wanted to grab dinner somewhere casual, so I came to this Ling Yu Zai place I’ve had bookmarked for a while. I heard they specialize in mud carp dishes.
Eating alone, I couldn’t order much, so I got their signature black pepper stir-fried mud carp noodles and a mustard greens and mud carp ball soup.
First, the taste was okay. The mud carp balls were bouncy, the noodles had wok hei, the black pepper flavor was strong, and the soup was light and refreshing. But honestly, it wasn’t as amazing as the reviews said.
The shop is a typical small restaurant—old decor, no service to speak of, just a place to fill your stomach. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t drive all the way here just for it.
Overall, the taste is passable with some character, but don’t expect too much. If you’re passing by and want to try mud carp dishes, you can stop by; making a special trip is debatable.
