Recently I found a new pork belly chicken restaurant near Pingzhou and decided to give it a try. We ordered their 249 yuan three-person set meal, which included a portion of pork belly chicken, a plate of green vegetable pork balls, beef balls, and a portion of beef.
Let me start with the overall impression: I think the value for money at this place is not great; the price is a bit high.
As for the chicken, it didn’t taste like capon to me, more like ordinary free-range chicken. The texture was just average, not particularly tender or flavorful, so this pot of pork belly chicken didn’t meet my expectations.
Also, the soup base, while rich in flavor, felt a bit heavy on seasoning. Besides the pepper aroma, I could clearly detect some artificial flavors and seasonings, lacking the natural sweetness that comes from long, slow simmering.
As for the beef rolls and lamb rolls we added later, I personally felt the quality was mediocre, almost like processed meat, with a loose texture and little meat aroma. Overall, it didn’t have the quality that makes you want to order more.
The environment was also a major drawback. It’s a semi-outdoor dining space, which gets stuffy and hot in summer, and there are many mosquitoes, making the overall experience uncomfortable. Especially when eating this peppery pork belly chicken, you tend to sweat easily, and the stuffy environment further diminishes the experience.
Also, a large bottle of cola costs 15 yuan, which I think is expensive. Normally, many places sell it for around 10 yuan.
Overall, I’d give it a 3 out of 5. It’s the kind of place you try once and that’s enough. Some might like the heavy flavor, but given the price and overall quality, I don’t think it offers good value. I probably won’t come here again.
