Review

Today, I was near Shao E Zai around mealtime, so I dropped in for a bite. I’ve been here a few times before and came with some expectations, but this time I was a bit disappointed.

First, the roast goose. I ordered a portion for 45 yuan. It turned out to be mostly the “upper part” of the goose, and it was clearly not freshly roasted. The skin wasn’t crispy—lacking that satisfying crunch—and the aroma wasn’t strong enough. More importantly, it wasn’t well-seasoned; the flavor felt superficial. There were also a few pieces of duck breast that were dry and tough, so I gave up on them.

Next, the blanched goose intestines. The ingredients were fresh, which I could tell. But they weren’t cleaned thoroughly, with too much fat inside, making them greasy and ruining the texture.

Honestly, this meal felt like “the reputation remains, but the quality has declined.” I used to be pleasantly surprised here, but this time it was just average.

I hope the restaurant can stabilize its output, especially regarding heat control and attention to detail. Otherwise, it’s a shame for such a well-known brand.
