Today, my friend was going back to Fujian. I took him to the station in the morning and brought him for breakfast. We chose this famous congee shop in Pingzhou.

This shop is probably one of the most popular breakfast spots in Pingzhou. It’s open from 6 AM to 11 AM, and it’s basically always full. If you want to eat, you have to come early.

Its biggest feature is fresh ingredients and generous portions. Whether it’s the raw-rolled congee or the rice noodle rolls, the quality is consistently good. Every time I come, I usually order ge sha (a type of pork) and ban jin (tendon), sometimes adding pig kidney. The ingredients are very clean, with no off-flavors, and the portions are not small at all—each bowl is full of toppings, making it very satisfying to eat.

For me, a steaming bowl of raw-rolled congee is the most comfortable start to the day. When my stomach is warm, I feel energized.

If you’re staying in Pingzhou and don’t want to eat the hotel buffet for breakfast, I think this shop is really worth a try. The prices are reasonable, the quality is stable, and it’s an old shop that many locals have been frequenting. It basically won’t disappoint.
