This Chengji Hakka Noodle House has been open on Yuqi Street for a while. I often see locals eating there when I pass by. Today I wanted something light, so I came to try their Hakka cuisine.
Since I arrived close to closing time, many dishes were already sold out. I ordered a steamed rice, a bowl of chicken soup, and a salted fish steamed pork belly.
Overall, as a neighborhood fast-food restaurant, the quality is quite consistent. The chicken soup was the most satisfying—it didn’t taste like it was made from ordinary feed chicken. The chicken meat was firm and chewy, and the broth was clear, sweet, and fresh, not greasy. The salted fish steamed pork belly was also very appetizing with rice. The aroma of salted fish and the fat of the pork belly blended perfectly—it had a savory flavor without being too heavy. The steamed rice had distinct grains and paired well with the dishes.
Overall, this shop takes a down-to-earth approach. There’s nothing too fancy, but the quality of the dishes is solid, and the ingredients are used seriously. The price is reasonable, and the value for money is good. If you want a simple home-style meal on Yuqi Street or some light Hakka flavors, this place is worth a try. Next time, I’ll come earlier to try their other signature dishes.
