——Personal experience exposes the restaurant owner’s serial tricks of “profiting from others’ misery”
I. Moral decay under the guise of art
When you step into this “art restaurant” hyped as a holy grail on Xiaohongshu, your eyes will surely be drawn to the highly visually impactful wall paintings: oil paints flowing like Van Gogh’s Starry Night, light and shadow interwoven like Monet’s garden, cyberpunk-style mechanical vines… Every corner showcases the ingenuity of young artists. But do you know that these artistic creations worth hundreds of thousands of yuan were plundered by the owner through “zero-cost” means?
According to informed students, the owner, under the pretext of “building an urban cultural landmark,” recruited art students for a “creative practice,” promising to pay 500 yuan per square meter. However, after 32 students spent two months completing over 200 square meters of wall paintings throughout the restaurant, the middle-aged man in a GUCCI belt suddenly changed his tune: “Student works are not worth this price? Giving you the opportunity for social practice is the greatest reward!”
II. Double blow of violent threats and psychological manipulation
What is most outrageous is the subsequent process of demanding payment. When the creative team sent three student representatives to negotiate, the owner locked the restaurant door after closing and turned all surveillance cameras away. According to the parties involved: “He brought two tattooed thugs, threw our design drafts on the floor, burned holes through them with cigarette butts, saying ‘these scraps of paper aren’t even fit for wiping your ass,’ and threatened to make us ‘socially dead’ in the industry.”
Even more absurd is his system of threatening rhetoric:
- Artistic extortion: “The acrylic paint you used exceeds standards; I can report you and get you expelled.”
- Personal insult: “Poor students should be grateful that I gave you a chance to showcase.”
- Gangster intimidation: “My nephew works in XX bureau; believe me, I can make your whole family’s life miserable.”
III. All-round disastrous experience from ingredients to service
Besides the moral stain, the dining experience at this restaurant is a catastrophe:
● Ingredient chaos: The so-called “direct-sourced seafood from Hokkaido” is actually frozen stock three years old; a diner photographed the packaging box showing “produced in 2019.” ● Hygiene horror: Under the Instagram-famous starry sky dome, a guest witnessed the chef using a cloth that had wiped the floor to clean sashimi. ● Service violence: When a customer questioned an overcharge of 128 yuan on the bill, the cashier threw the POS machine at the customer (as evidenced by surveillance footage).
IV. Disturbing business model
Digging deeper into its operational chain reveals more shady practices:
- Using student works to apply for cultural subsidies, defrauding government support funds.
- Extending violent aesthetics from decoration to operations: waitstaff must memorize “20 customer rebuttal scripts.”
- Establishing a “negative review elimination squad” that forces deletion of posts through phone harassment and lawyer’s letters.
V. Heartfelt advice for consumers
- Beware of the “high appearance, low cost” trap: the 38-yuan internet-famous afternoon tea is actually made from expired ingredients and pirated designs.
- Pay attention to personal safety: a consumer who questioned food quality in a private room was “invited” to the back alley for a “chat.”
- Keep complete evidence: the restaurant has established a complete anti-rights-protection system, from destroying surveillance footage to forging signatures.
Conclusion: When we press the shutter on those stunning wall paintings, have we ever thought that every stroke of paint solidifies the tears of young creators? When we pose in front of the Instagram-style decor, do we realize that we are contributing traffic to a commercial bully? This magical space, which uses art to decorate its facade and violence to run its business, is interpreting in the most ironic way what “beauty is ugliness, ugliness is beauty.”
